Isla Mujeres ~ Weddings

Destination Weddings

Imagine standing on a powdery white sand beach with the clear turquoise caribbean waters beyond as you whisper “I do” under the breathtaking glow of the tropical setting sun. Isla Mujeres is the perfect place to begin or renew your “happily-ever-after”, surrounded by your family and friends and followed by dinner and a reception where you’ll dance the night away or an intimate private ceremony for just the two of you.

Mega-resort “wedding packages” are great if you are staying at one of Cancun’s All Inclusives but if your dream is unique destination wedding that reflects the two of you, the best thing you can do is retain the services of one of Isla’s wedding planners.

Weddings Isla Mujeres

The inviting warmth of Weddings Isla Mujeres is in large part a result of the chemistry created by its owners. The sister team of María and Kin have found the perfect fusion of old-world Mexican charm and the rich tradition of Isla Mujeres to create what has become one of the regions most inviting beach wedding locations. Your seaside wedding is customized, so no two weddings are ever alike. “Have fun. Make it yours. Cherish it while it´s happening!”

Destination Wedding Tips

Dress Accordingly. A huge glittery Cinderella ball gown belongs at a Disney resort wedding… on Isla Mujeres… not so much. Choose a lightweight fabric like chiffon or charmeuse so your gown flows in the ocean breeze and you’ll be comfortable in the tropical heat.

Ditch the heels. Sand and high heels just don't mix. Wear flat-sole or wedge sandals that won't sink into the sand, go barefoot or wear sexy foot jewelry. You can always slip on a pair of heels for the reception.

Nix the veil. Think twice about a long veil for a beach wedding, if it's windy, it will be a nightmare for you and the photographer. Instead, use fresh tropical flowers in your hair or a fascinator.

Ocean breeze and hair. Think of the elements when deciding on a hairstyle, a full or partial updo holds up better. But if you must wear your long hair down, what happens if it’s a windy day? Check which way the wind is blowing and position yourself during the ceremony so that the breeze is blowing your hair off your face not onto it.

Tropical weather and makeup. Makeup that works great back home simply won’t be the same on Isla. Chances are you’ll sweat it off somewhere between your hotel room and the beach. Professional products made for hot and humid climates and a make-up artist that knows how to apply them is the only way to go.

Be careful of tan lines! Picture this - you arrive on Isla Mujeres several days before the wedding, you spend some time on the beach, walking around Centro, meeting with your wedding planner and visiting the ceremony and reception venue. Before you realize it, you have sunburn stripes across your shoulders and chest, your wrist where you were wearing a watch and across your forehead from a baseball cap. The tropical sun is strong and pale winter skin can burn in a very short time so be careful!

Relax and enjoy! Schedule a massage, go to a yoga class, take a siesta under the palm trees... pamper yourself and let your wedding planner do the work.

Legal or Spiritual Ceremony

The majority of destination weddings on Isla Mujeres are spiritual ceremonies, meaning they are not legally binding. Many couples prefer to be legally married in their own county and their Isla destination wedding is a celebration.

If you want to be legally married in Mexico, your wedding planner will guide you through the red tape of a civil (legal) marriage and all the documents that are required. The "Acta de Matrimonio" (your proof-of-marriage certificate) is recognized by the United States, Canada, France, England, Scotland, Ireland, Germany and many other countries.
