Sea Hawk Divers

Sea Hawk Divers is one of the original dive shops on Isla Mujeres, family-run and operating since 1985. It’s now a two-generation operation, and that family feel really does carry through into the way they run their trips and treat their guests. A lot of people who dive, snorkel or fish with them once, end up coming back and going out with them again and again, which probably tells you everything you need to know.

For divers, they offer PADI Resort Courses for beginners, the “let’s see if I love diving before I commit” option. And for those who do fall in love with diving, Sea Hawk offers full certification courses from Open Water all the way up to Dive Master through SDI or PADI. Once certified, you can head out on reef and wreck dives, or even try night diving, which sounds a little scary but is actually pretty amazing.

If snorkeling is more your speed, they have trips to Manchones Reef, Lighthouse Reef, and MUSA, the underwater sculpture museum. It’s a really fun mix of marine life and underwater art, and even people who have snorkeled in other places usually find MUSA pretty memorable.

They also run fishing charters and spearfishing trips, which is a completely different kind of day on the water, more “let’s go find dinner” than “let’s go look at the pretty fish.”

Swimming with the whale sharks happens during the summer months, and it’s one of those amazing experiences that’s hard to describe until you’re in the water next to something the size of a bus that is somehow gentle and calm. On the flip side, there are seasonal sailfish snorkeling trips, which are fast, exciting, and not something every shop on Isla offers.

One thing that also makes Sea Hawk special is that they have their Sea Hawk Suites right above the dive shop. If diving, fishing or whale sharks are the reason you came to Isla, it doesn’t get much easier than rolling out of bed, grabbing a coffee, walking downstairs, and being on the boat a few minutes later.

They also offer a private water taxi service between Cancun and Isla Mujeres, which is a great option if your flight arrives late, leaves very early, or you just want to skip the ferry and go straight across without dealing with the ferry terminal.

If you’re looking for a long-established, family-run Isla Mujeres dive shop with a very personal feel and a lot of experience on these waters, Sea Hawk Divers is a great fit, especially if you like the idea of going out with the same crew year after year every time you come back to Isla.
