Welcome to the Isla Mujeres Women’s Beading Co-op where every bead tells a story, and every purchase supports something truly beautiful. This group of extraordinary local artists crafts one-of-a-kind jewelry, each piece handwoven over many hours with tiny glass beads, big talent, and even bigger heart.
When you visit their cheerful mid-island shop and you’ll likely find the artists seated around a table covered in supplies, laughing, chatting, and beading together. Every woman earns the majority percentage of each sale, with a small portion going back into the co-op to keep supplies stocked and creativity flowing.
Want to join the fun?
Take a beading class anytime between 10am – 2pm (Monday–Saturday) and design your own bracelet or earrings. It’s a hands-on experience filled with color, camaraderie, and a little Spanish practice, too! Send a message through their Facebook page or just stop by.
Got a custom design in mind? They’ll happily bring it to life – just be sure to stop by early in your trip to give them time to work their magic.
And if you love a deeper story behind the sparkle, don’t miss this recent Ms. Magazine feature highlighting the co-op’s inspiring journey, including insight from longtime Isla resident Karen Rosenberg.
From occasional pop-up jewelry sales in NYC to an Amazon Wishlist to support the artisans, the Women’s Beading Co-op is more than a shop – it’s a celebration of art, community, and the spirit of Isla Mujeres. It’s a must-stop, a must-see, and a must-experience!
