Isla Retreats is one of those places that’s hard to neatly label… not quite a boutique hotel, not exactly a single villa, but more like your own private little compound with six villas tucked into a tropical garden.
From the street, you’d never fully guess what’s behind those stone walls… it’s classic mid-island life out front, taxis and scooters zipping by, schools, little shops and restaurants doing their thing.
Then you step inside, and it all changes… palms, quiet, the pool and palapa right there in front of you, and suddenly it feels like you’ve stepped into your own little tropical Brigadoon… hidden away and a world apart.
Tucked into the Salina Chica neighborhood, Isla Retreats sits where things start to feel a little more local and less touristy.
Nearby are all those everyday Isla essentials… small family-run convenience stores, fresh juice and fruit stands, and a mix of local and expat-owned restaurants that are seriously good.
Playa Norte and downtown are about 10 minutes away, close enough to head in whenever you want, but far enough that you’re not right in the middle of the buzz.
Living Space
The shared space is really the heart of Isla Retreats… a heated saltwater pool with waterfalls, lounge chairs, and shaded spots if you’re hiding from the sun. Right next to it, a classic Mayan palapa with a bar, grill, and plenty of seating that quickly becomes the go-to spot for afternoon snacks and those “just one more drink” kind of evenings.
It’s a setup that works especially well for groups… everyone can have their own space and still feel connected. And with the villas just behind it all, it’s easy to be social when you feel like it or slip away when you don’t.
Bedrooms & Villas
There are six villas in total, each with a king bed, air conditioning, WiFi, and all the essentials you’d expect.
Four of the villas offer full one-bedroom layouts with living areas and full kitchens, while two are simpler, studio-style setups with a mini-fridge, microwave and coffee maker. The studios can connect via lock-off doors, which works great for family groups.
When you rent the full property, you’re getting that perfect mix of privacy and togetherness… everyone has their own space, but you’re never more than a few steps away from the pool, the palapa, or each other.
