On Isla Mujeres, we don’t just celebrate; we celebrate in style! The traditional Día de los Muertos is not just a two-day affair here, it’s a six-night festival blending Mexican tradition, Mayan mystique, Catholic reverence, and a sprinkle of Halloween mischief.
In 2023, Isla rolled out five nights of magic beginning with the lighting of the Great Altar and ending with a show-stopping parade of Catrinas and Catrines. Each night Isla paid tribute to Mexico’s multifaceted Day of the Dead traditions with dance and music performances from both visiting artists and Isla’s own children, teens, and adults.
There were costume contests, pumpkin masterpieces, altars that told stories, and cheeky poems that made us chuckle and tear up a bit. Whether dressed in the night’s theme of Yucatan finery and classic Catrina face or rocking a witch’s hat on the 31st, it was all about having a blast and honoring those who’ve danced ahead to the big party in the sky.
Join us in 2024 as we celebrate life, love, and the memories of those we miss—in the most Isla Mujeres way possible. Life’s short, but the party doesn’t have to be!
