The Shell House

Tucked away on the Caribbean side of Isla Mujeres, you’ll find the world-renowned Shell House, the brainchild of acclaimed architect Eduardo Ocampo and his brother, the famous Mexican artist Octavio Ocampo.

More than just a house, this architectural marvel is an homage to the sea. It’s almost as if Eduardo and Octavio plucked a gigantic shell from the ocean floor and turned it into a home. This house is so authentically “shell,” it wouldn’t be surprising if a giant hermit crab tried to move in!

Comprising three distinct sections, the Shell House is a testament to the power of imagination. The original two-story Casa Caracol boasts a living room with a circular couch (because corners are so not shell), a dining area, and a kitchen. The pièce de résistance is undoubtedly the vast upstairs bedroom, complete with a king bed nestled under shell swirls and a balcony overlooking the Caribbean.

El Caracolito room, nestled next to the main house, is a cozy cocoon with a king bed, a desk, and a bathroom as curvy as a conch shell. The Shellito room at the property’s rear offers another king bed, bathroom, and patio perfect for a moonlit nightcap.

The outdoor area is a sanctuary in its own right. A freshwater pool invites you for a dip, while the jacuzzi whispers promises of bubbly relaxation. Hammocks swing lazily between coco trees, a grill sizzles in anticipation of a feast, and an outdoor bar is ready to mix your favorite cocktail.

The Shell House isn’t just a place to stay – it’s an immersive experience. So, come and live inside a seashell for a while. It’s a pearl of a chance you won’t want to miss!
